Burdigan Wheaten Terriers
Welcome to Burdigan Wheatens! My name is Julie Burdick and I have been showing Wheaten Terriers since 1985 and breeding since 2005. I am a reputable breeder, member of Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America, and live in Spokane, Washington. I am committed to breeding healthy Wheaten Terriers with exceptional temperaments. If you are looking for a puppy to buy and not have any other contact with the breeder, then I am not the breeder for you. I interview all my puppy owners and only choose families that I believe will take excellent care of their new addition and are planning a long term commitment to their Wheaten and the relationship with me. I want to be able to help you when you are having difficulty with any issue with your Wheaten, provide valuable information that I have learned regarding Wheatens if a health situation should arise, and will be there for you with encouraging and supporting words when your Wheatens end of life is near. Does this mean I want to be part of your life every single day? No Way! But I do want to hear updates, good and bad, and be your leaning post whenever you need it throughout the life of your dog.
If this is what you are looking for and ready to commit to, then I could be the breeder for you.
What Makes Us Different
There are many reputable breeders throughout the United States, but there are even more backyard breeders and puppy mills. Finding the right reputable breeder to get your new addition from is difficult and what makes it even more difficult is the internet and social media. Yes, I said the internet and social media. It has become so easy for backyard breeders and puppy mills to hide behind a computer screen, showing cute pictures and displaying beautiful website, which sadly are many times full of dishonest information. Burdigan Wheatens, Josh and Julie, are reputable breeders that are transparent about their breeding program. We are NOT breeding dogs as a profit or a business. We breed dogs because we love the breed and will do everything in our power to protect the breed and preserve the structure and qualities that makes a Wheaten a Wheaten. We show our dogs because it is our hobby, our sport and our way to meet and enjoy friends that have the same love and interest that we have of our Wheaten Terriers. We will NEVER breed to “make” money…we both work real life, full time jobs and our “job” is not breeders dogs.
Structure
Whether you own a show dog or a pet dog, structure is important. Just like in humans, imagine a spine that is curved or legs that aren’t straight. This can create pain over time and breaks down the joints. Proper structure is important for long term health.

Health
Wheatens are typically a healthy breed that live long, active lives. However, just like every breed, they are susceptible to some certain diseases. We follow a strict code of ethics set forth by the National Club and do all we can to try to prevent these diseases in our breeding program.

Temperament
Happy, Energetic, social with a touch of stubborn thrown in, pretty much describes a Wheaten. Temperament is very important to us and for the first 9 weeks of life, our puppies are exposed to a wide variety of noises, objects, situations to prepare them for their new family. Though consistent training and socializing is important for the family to continue with through puppyhood or problems can arise.
